Ryan Redebaugh is a songwriter and music producer currently based in Los Angeles, CA. He has independently written, produced and released several albums of original singer-songwriter, indie rock material with his band "Red & Co." His songs are richly composed with themes touching on love, loss, hope and renewal with a focus on exploring the deeper meanings in life. His songwriting is both honest and reflective in nature and incorporates character driven storytelling. He is also a composer and regularly writes for indie film, documentary and has had his music placed in both theatrical film releases and television. He also writes regularly towards his experimental, electronic soundscape project “Redeco."
Ryan having spent 13 years living in NYC formed the band shortly after graduating from NYU with a degree in acting. He spent free hours in the NYU piano practice rooms learning his songwriting craft and writing what would become his first album “New Life.” He began collaborating with his friend Taylor Roig (a recording engineer) and recorded music with local musician friends including collaborator Kyle Sandison and now long time collaborator, drummer Vinny Byrne. These collaborations were the beginnings of a new creative outlet. A second album "Nearby Places" followed as apartment and church recording sessions over the years gradually turned into studio recordings. At the same time, early solo gigs at Broadway cabaret clubs and area coffeehouses turned into full band gigs around some of NYC's vibrant music clubs, bars and performance venues. The music and band would evolve over the years with various musicians contributing.
Over the course of 2013 through 2019, Redebaugh set about his most ambitious and collaborative album to date with full string and horn sections accompanying the full band across 14 songs. At this point, he had met guitarist Uri Frazier who began implementing his own composition background towards creative guitar parts enhancing each song. Their long time drummer Vincent Byrne continued to bring life and enthusiasm to all drum and percussion parts. The sessions were recorded at Rivington 66, which quickly became their go to creative space for the album. “True North” was released and the band played a favorite show to date at the Bowery Electric (an album release show). Even after Ryan moved to Chicago and eventually LA to pursue scoring work, the band continued to make music through remote recording and once a year visits back to New York. During the pandemic era, remote recording led to a fourth studio album titled “Night Owls." Soon after, bassist Jack Breslin joined the band elevating the music further with his jazz and rock performance background. The band went on to play the renowned Bitter End venue in the village and released a live album “Live at the Bitter End” featuring their 2022 set. The following year, they recorded their most recent live in-studio session from Rivington 66 (a return to their favorite space to record and a return to many of their earlier songs). The Rivington '23 session was a chance for the guys to revisit earlier material and put a fresh, updated spin on the tunes including more room to improvise and jam between sections. Ryan is currently in the midst of writing songs towards the next LP of material which he looks forward to bringing to the band to fully realize.
“I’m always invigorated by the songwriting side of music and production. Seeing the songs come to life and evolve over time in the studio and on stage with great friends and collaborators is always such a thrill. Music made in the moment and with others has always felt like the purest and truest form music can take.” ~Ryan
